In-person Post Concussion Vestibular Disorder

My 11 year old son had been suffering constant dizziness for several months and as the NHS waiting list for a neurology appointment was 14 a week wait, he undertook four sessions of physiotherapy with Samy. All his help and advice was greatly appreciated which included exercises, diet, lifestyle changes and reduction in electronics (although my son was less enthusiastic about not being able to do and eat what he wanted!), but definitely helped his eventual recovery. He provided an extremely professional and friendly service and I would not hesitate in recommending his services and was worth the 3 to 4 hour round trip! Thank you so much Samy!

In-person Balance difficulties
After a 2 year period of re occurring balance and dizziness problems, my GP suggested I may like to get in touch with the Dizzy Care Clinic. Being at my wits end with the condition, I thought why not anything is worth a try. After a 3 month period of vestibular physiotherapy, what a difference this has made to my quality of life. My balance system is now generally under control with the occasional bad day, which I was advised how to cope with. Just being able to walk a distance and enter a Shop without a problem is something I thought I would never achieve again. With the Dizzy Care Clinic's excellent understanding of patients’ needs and with their support and guidance, I have no hesitation at all in recommending them to anyone suffering from balance, dizziness or similar conditions

In-person Balance difficulties
I visited Samy at his dizzy clinic in 2013 and 2015 for help with vertigo/balance difficulties. He quickly assessed my needs, listening carefully, with empathy and understanding. Samy taught me a series of practical exercises, which enabled me to regain my balance. Should the need arise in the future, I am now confident I can effectively apply them for myself. He has a wide range of knowledge and experience. I highly recommend his service.

In-person BPPV & Complex vestibular issues
I suffered catastrophic vestibular failure in Dec 2012 combined with BPPV due to gentamicin toxicity following surgery. I struggled along for several months before I was fortunate enough to find Samy. Within minutes of meeting him he diagnosed bilateral BPPV, and over two sessions corrected this, he also started me on a course of vestibular rehab therapy to try to improve my balance and various other problems that I had. Over the following months ( which did turn into years as I still see him now!) I saw him regularly and with his fantastic help and support I have improved far more than I ever believed would be possible. On my part I did work hard making sure that I did all the exercises he gave me each visit - (however odd some of them seemed!) as I realised that I had found the one person who truly understood my problem, and had the knowledge, understanding and ability to do something about it. Samy is not only fantastic at what he does, but he is also kind, patient and supportive. As a family, we will never be able to thank him enough for the difference he has made - There is no doubt whatsoever that without his help, so many aspects of my life would be far more difficult and challenging than they are now.

I attended the dizzy care clinic on numerous occasions.Sammi was more than helpful. Not only very skilled in his field but a very understanding person. If there is anyone who can encourage and create a programme tailored to suit your needs then he's the man.He will build the V.R.T exercises slowly over increments so you gain confidence and stability. He is always there to return to and doesn't push the course of treatment upon you but after noticing improvements it is beneficial to be guided by him as he knows what he is doing..thanks again Sammi... After visiting The Dizzy Clinic three times for consulations with Sammy and following his recommendations I am completely cured. I have suffered for a long time with dizzy spells which were brought on for no apparant reason. These spells made me very sick and put me to bed for days. After visiting Sammy, taking his advice about my diet, doing a few simple excersises I am now completely cured and as an extra bonus I have lost 2 stones in weight without trying to diet. Thanks to Sammy I now have a life again.

In-person Vestibular migraine
I attended the Dizzy Care Clinic as a patient with many complex illnesses, most of them causing dizziness, so I knew that Samy would only be able to help me to a certain degree. He was very attentive and empathetic to my circumstances of being ill long-term. I felt he understood my challenges more than other healthcare professionals! He decided the best way he could help me was by tackling my Vestibular Migraine through lifestyle modification, which included diet changes, no technology and sleep regularity. I committed to these changes for 4 months. The biggest improvement was my migraines became more managable in terms of pain intensity to the point that I could spend less time in bed during the day. Thus I could do a little bit more in the day since my reduced migraines also reduced my dizziness and imbalance. It was a relief to finally have stability in my home environment. Although I didnt continue at the Clinic, because I have so many other underlying illnesses I need to resolve, Samy taught me the healthiest ways possible to take control of my migraines! His advice was invaluable and kindness greatly appreciated. I will not forget the help he has extended to me on my illness journey. Thank you Samy and God Bless Feb 2018

In-person Vestibular disorder
While I knew my balance was deteriorating, until an inner ear problem, I did not realise how much I was losing my independence. From the first appointment I was given the hope that the situation could improve. I was given the 'tools' to work with, but needing a consistent effort from myself to achieve a positive result. With time I have regained not only my self confidence ,but greatly improved my life. Finally made it! Thank you again for your help.

In-person Vestibular migraine

'My illness started at work with stroke-like symptoms where I was taken to hospital in an ambulance. After many tests, taking several months, I was diagnosed with Vestibular Migraines. I had been suffering from constant dizziness, vertigo and nausea since the start of my illness and my neurologist recommended treatment with Samy at The Dizzy Clinic. The first few sessions were tough because I was constantly 'spaced out' and unable to stand up straight for more than a few seconds. After working hard on the exercises at home and listening to all of Samys advice I began to see a dramatic improvement. By the fifth session, Samy re-assessed my balance and discharged me. The difference from session 1 to session 5 was dramatic and I was astonished at how quickly I had improved. I would strongly recommend Samy to anyone experiencing balance/dizziness issues. I just wish I had found him sooner!

In-person BPPV
Dear Samy, I suffered from Vertigo for about four months in 2017, following a fall while on a sailing holiday last summer. Fortunately for me, a friend of mine suggested I contact you at the Dizzy Clinic. I am a keen tennis player and never having experienced anything like this before, found myself unable to live a normal life. I was amazed to learn that physiotherapy was for me the best solution to my problems of dizziness, not conventional medication as one might expect. At my consultation, you immediately diagnosed my problem and began treatment there and then. I was given a set of balance exercises to practice at home and following a number of appointments; I was given the all clear. My sincere thanks to you for all your efforts to help me get my sporting and normal life back. Kind regards K Gammon Wolverhampton, West Midlands

In-person BPPV
After being left thoroughly disappointed with my GP (prescribed tablets to help with the symptoms with possible side effects of exacerbated them!) Samy managed to squeeze me in as I was flying a few days later, my BPPV was sorted in just one session. Can not thank or recommend him highly enough, thanks again Samy.

In-person BPPV
I had suffered with vertigo for some time before seeing Samy. He diagnosed the problem (BPPV) and manipulated my head at the first appointment. I felt fuzzy-headed for about 48 hours following the treatment but was then OK. Samy had mentioned that this would probably happen. At the second appointment he checked that the vertigo had gone. He was very understanding and professional. It is wonderful to be clear-headed again. I highly recommend Samy. J D Brewood June 2018

I had suffered with dizziness (BPPV) for about 10 days. It was impacting my ability to perform my job and certain aspects of daily living. Sleeping was the most difficult, as lying down made my dizziness worse. I was referred to Samy by a friend – I only needed the one visit. Samy performed a series of manoeuvres to my head which gave instant results. I felt a little ‘off’ for the following 36 hours but after that passed it was as though I had never suffered. It is indescribable in terms of the impact this intervention has on BPPV. Thank you Samy!! Regards Mark

'Treatment for vertigo was excellent. I have been suffering on and off for two years. A friend recommended this clinic and the physiotherapist Samy Selvanayagam. His subject knowledge and treatment were both first class.'

In-person BPPV & Complex vestibular issues
During the third and an extended bout of extreme dizziness and nausea I visited the GP who diagnosed ‘vertigo’. He gave me a chance to read about the condition on his computer screen so that I could confirm my symptoms, told me that it was ‘not a life-threatening condition’ and concluded that I would ‘learn to live with it’.
I left the surgery with a fact sheet and a repeat prescription for the antihistamine. I was devastated. One month later nothing had changed apart from the medication made me lethargic and I had not learned to live with it. In fact, if anything it had become more difficult to live with because the tinnitus had increased and I had lost all hearing in my left ear and it was compromised in the right ear.
I could not comprehend how I was to live with this – I could not walk in a straight line, I was unable to drive, to hear, to sleep.
I searched for help – I found Samy Selvanayagam at the DizzyCare Clinic.
I left a message on Samy’s website, he answered immediately – he said ‘I can help you’. I made an appointment the very next day and saw Samy the same day. During the first visit, he diagnosed my condition, which was a little more complicated than vertigo! He treated the extreme dizziness immediately with the Epley manoeuvre – the extreme ‘swimming’ dizziness was reduced to mild dizziness and I was able to walk out of his consulting room unaided. After an evening of rest and relaxation, I woke the next morning with no signs of dizziness at all.
Three further appointments, at monthly intervals, allowed Samy to tackle the cause of the tinnitus and loss of hearing. He prescribed a series of exercises to ‘rehabilitate’ my balance and an eating programme to remove possible dietary triggers for the symptoms I had presented. In three months the tinnitus had faded and disappeared and the last improvement was the return of my hearing.
I did not have to learn to live with it – Samy enabled me to be free from it.
I cannot thank him enough. I will be forever grateful for his calm, quiet and knowledgeable approach which filled me with confidence on our very first meeting. I know that if this condition does reappear he will be there to help me – I do not have to live with it.
In-person Vestibular Hypofunction
I had been suffering from what I had been told was vertigo for some years which seemed to be cured by tablets.
I would have months/years free from this vertigo before it returned. I had to go back to taking tablets.
I went to see an ENT consultant regarding this problem. I had various tests and a brain scan. It was then decided that the balance of my left ear had become useless and this was causing the problem. I was advised that eventually, the balance of the other ear would rectify this.
In July of 2018, I became quite ill with a new attack of vertigo which caused sickness, generally feeling unbalanced and dizzy on and off. I resorted once more to medication.
Through a distant family member, I heard about this 'DizzyCare Clinic' at Codsall where Samy Selvanayagam practiced. I made an appointment on November 10th, 2018 to see Samy to which, my daughter accompanied me.
Samy gave me various tests to do namely
a) Standing perfectly still
b) Looking up
c) Lying on a bed on each side whilst he took videography of my eyes.
d) Complete a tick sheet of various tasks which gave you a number out of 100.
He explained that taking medication for vertigo is not advisable as it would interfere with natural recovery.
He gave me various exercises including moving head side to side and up and down while looking at an X that was attached on a wall in front.
I saw him again on December 15th but I had to resort to medication during this time just for a few days. Samy then gave me a whole list of exercises to do many of them to do with balancing & eye positions.
I had not and have not had any dizziness since doing these exercises and so when I saw him again on January 2019 he discharged me.
I am still doing these exercises daily in the hope that my vertigo has been cured
I’ve recently used Dizzy Care Clinic as I’ve been suffering from inner ear/ balance problems. My experience has been that Samy offers an excellent, patient-focused service. He is very thorough, taking time not only to diagnose the problem, but also to explain it in layman’s terms; he uses the same methodology to explain the treatment and how it will work. I’ve been delighted, and should I ever need to use him again, I would not hesitate to do so. David Jeffries
